Abstract

In This research the writer analyze the form, function and meaning of giyougo in the novel Boonasu Torakku by Koshigaya Osamu. Giyougo is onomatopoeic which describes the state of living beings and also the movement. In this research the writer uses descriptive method. In analyzing the data the writer uses the theory of onomatopoeic forms by Hiroko Fukuda (2012), the theory of functions onomatope by Hinata Hibiya (dalam Dafenny,2006:9-10), and the theory of meaning onomatope according to Miharu Akimoto (dalam Supangat,2015:15). Research result in a novel
Boonasu Torakku of 21 data giyougo forms: Jougo (repetitive), Gobion (word-ending sound) ri, tsu, n and syllables+tsu+syllables+ri. each of which represents a form of its own meaning which refers to the condition, state or movement. Giyougo onomatopoeic function in the novel Boonasu Torakku is clearly used to describe the state of human behavior. Based on the 10 division onomatopoeic meaning, meaning onomatope giyougo in this study consists of only three meanings, a) hito no dousa (meaning that shows activity/human actions and movements); b) hito no kenkou
joutai (meaning that indicate the health of humans); c) hito no shintaiteki tokuchou (meaning that shows physical features).
