A study of Violation and Flouting maxim in Deadpool Movie

Abstract

Cooperative principles is very important to conduct a conversation, it is the
proses to deliver the meaning between the participant in a conversation. The participant
convey the utterance and answer replay as it is required. It is gain some connections
called a cooperative principles. This study aims at the investigation of violation and
flouting maxim in Deadpool movie. The violation and flouting that happen in Deadpool
movie were happen in their utterances, term of conversation.
Cooperative principles should be obeyed by giving the required contribution of
the participants, at the situation at which occurs, by the accepted of the goals or
direction of the talk exchange in which the participants engage(Grice,1975). It can be
seen in the conversation when the participant give the information for the
communication exchange
This research concern on violation and flouting maxim in a conversation. Grice
stated that there are four maxim that are involved in cooperative principles as a rule for
having conversation. This study examines the violation and routing of maxim in
Deadpool, the utterances of characters from the film that are violating and flouting. To
achieve this goal, this study uses theory of Grice. The method used in research is
cooperative principles in conversational analysis.
From the analysis of the research, the results of this research are the characters
in Deadpool movie violates in the form of violation and flouting. Violation of maxim is
an act of the character that does not provide the information needed by the recipient. In
this movie this violation is tangible in the form of violation maxim of quality, maxim of
quantity, manner and relation. In the other hand, Flouting maxim of quantity is often
committed by characters in the movie. Kind of flouting maxim that found in the movie
is only maxim of quantity. Flouting maxim of quantity is an utterance of the speaker
that has the uninformative information, it is proven by less information or to much
information but does not enough to fill the requirement of the information exchange.
Flouting maxim is the speaker expecting the listener to capture the implied meaning of
the utterances. The utterances that is conveyed by the characters were violate and
flouting the maxim in case for having jokes in their meaning, but the violation often
misleading the information. Finally the violation and flouting maxim in Deadpool
movie can not found without the context of the conversation.
