Polysemy of Dasu (出す) Verb in Houkago Ni Shisha Wa Modoru Novel by Akiyoshi Rikako

Abstract

Polysemy is a word which has more than one meaning and in every
meaning has a connection each other that can be described. Many polysemy words
contain a different meaning, and if it wants to be interpreted into a sentence, then
it needs to look through the context or conditions that follow it in the sentence.
Thus, this study aims to describe the meaning had by dasu (出す) verb after
having a change contextually and to describe the conditions that appear form the
dasu (出す) verb meaning after the change contextually.
The study is descriptive. The object of the study was taken from Houkago
Ni Shisha Wa Modoru novel written by Akiyoshi Rikako. The data collecting
techniques were conducted by reading the novel and then taking a note to a
sentence that has dasu (出す) verb. The data analyzing techniques were conducted
by classifying, analyzing, and concluding the data. The techniques were presented
by using table, whereas for the numbering in the data analysis the writer analyzed
consecutively. On the other hand, to analyze the meaning and conditions of dasu
(出す) verb after having the change contextually the writer analyzed it irregularly.
According to the research result, thus the writer found the meaning had by dasu
verb after getting change to the meaning contextually, those are; a) Move/put something
out was 15 (fifteen) data, b) offer/deliver was four data, c) transfer/ask someone to leave
was six data, d) announce/display was ten data, e) publish/trade was one datum, f)
direct/instruct was one datum, g) begin/open was three data. Meanwhile, the conditions
which appear in the meaning of dasu verb contextually were a) Context of object was nine
data, b) context of situation was eight data, c) context of intention was eight data, d)
context of formal was one datum, e) context of speaker’s mood/temperament was nine
data, f) context of time was three data, g) context of place; found for two data.
