The Memories in the Lyrics of “Kirameki and Orenji” Song: The Nature of Poetry

Abstract

In this thesis, the author analyze the meaning of memories from the two-song lyrics
which were the closing songs from the anime Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso. The two song lyrics
are written by different poets. The purpose of this study is to uncover the meaning of memories
in the two song lyrics through the nature of poetry.
The author did not find research with the same object. However, the authors found a
comment on Kirameki song from the anime staff, they really like this song because the lyrics
are very touching. For the song Orenji, the author found the comment of the interviewer from
a Japanese entertainment website which interviewed the poet (and guitarist for the group) in
the anniversary celebrations Group, who said that this song is perfect to be used as the anime
soundtrack. To analyze the meaning memories of the author uses the theory of the nature of
poetry, namely theme, feeling, tone and atmosphere, and the message (Waluyo, 1987). The
meaning of memories is further analyzed through the connotation meaning.
This research included in qualitative research. The method used is descriptive. The data
collection technique used is library technique. The data analysis technique was carried out with
several steps, namely (1) listening to song lyrics, (2) downloading and translating song lyrics,
(3) reading and understanding song lyric content, (4) grouping data and analyzing it based on
parts of the nature of poetry, namely the theme, feelings, tone and atmosphere, and the mandate
(5) analyzing data connotation meaning of the overall lyrics (6) analyzing the meaning of the
connotation of memories in two song lyrics, (7) concluding the results of the study.
As the results of the study revealed the messege of the lyrics Kirameki is Convey your
feelings to loved ones while still together. The author found nine connotations of data that
shows memories, with details of the five data about remembering all the events when with his
girlfriend and four data such as impressions happy when with her lover. Orenji mandate for
song lyrics to convey the poet is a farewell to pursue the dream is not the end of everything
because of one point would meet in an atmosphere of joy. The author found nine connotations
of data that shows memories, with details about the five data about remembering to spend time
with his friends and impression data in the form of four happy when with his friend. Although
it is written by a different poet, feelings about the memories of the two poets remain the same,
something that made an impression in the memory. Kirameki poet tells of memories of
spending time with his girlfriend and Orenji poet tells of memories of spending time with his
best friend.
