Abstract

oke-width: 0px; "> The purpose of this study is to reveal the influence of characterization toward Tsukuru’s emotions. The novel tells about Tsukuru went to see his four of friends after being separated for 20 years to mend their relationship. The process of mending their relationship triggers the emotions of Tsukuru from events that occur in his life. This study uses technique of characterization by Altenbernd and Lewis to analyze Tsukuru’s character (Nurgiyantoro, 1998: 194-211). According to Krech, emotion refers to a strirred-up state of organism, reflected in three quite different ways; emotional experience, emotional behavior, physiological changes in the body. To analyze Tsukuru’s emotion, the writer uses theory of emotions of man by Krech (Krech, 1969:230-248). This study is qualitative research using descriptive method. The object of this study is a 2013 novel by Murakami Haruki Shikisai o Motanai Tazaki Tsukuru to,
Kare no Junrei no Toshi (Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage). Data collection carried out in a way (1) reading and understanding the novel, (2) do a library research that have relations to this study, (3) classify data of Tsukuru’s character (4) analyze Tsukuru’s character (5) classify data of Tsukuru’s emotion (6) analyze Tsukuru’s emotion. (7) analyze the influence of characterization toward Tsukuru’s emotion based on theory used, (8) make a conclusion. The result of this study is Tsukuru has 10 out of 12 emotions by Krech. There are 7characterization that influence the 10 emotions. These are the order of the characterizations based on their influence on emotions; loving, closed, sensitive, pessimistic, diffident, submissive, and neat. The primary emotions dominated by emotions of fear and the character influences the most are closed, diffident, loving. The emotions pertaining to sensory stimulation dominated by emotions of pain and the character influences the most are loving and sensitive. The emotions pertaining to self-appraised dominated by emotions of pride and the character influences the most is neat. The emotions pertaining to other people dominated by emotion of love and the character influences the most is loving. As a conclusion, the most influential character toward Tsukuru’s emotions is loving.
