Abstract

h: 0px; "> The purpose of this study is to reveal Japanese culture value Amae and
Omoiyari of the characters Ruri and Hiroaki in Jisatsu Yotei Bi. Amae is more dominant on Ruri. While, omoiyari is more dominant on Hiroaki. There are characterizations that caused amae and omoiyari.
Amae, according to Takeo Doi, is a noun from amaeru, that is, an intransitive verb is to depend and presume upon another’s benevolence. The adjective amai means sweet, both with reference to taste and with reference to human relation to behave self-indulgently presuming on some special relationship that exist between the two (Doi in Anna Wiezbicka, 1997). Omoiyari according to Takie Sugiyama Lebra
omoiyari refers to the ability and willingness to fell what other are feeling, to vicariously experience the pleasure or pain that they are undergoing, and help them satisfy their wishes (Lebra, 1976). To analyze the character, uses technique by Altenbernd and Lewis. That technique can be divided into two ways that is exspositori technique and dramatic technique (Altenbernd and Lewis in Nurgiyantoro, 1998: 195). The study is a qualitative research using descriptive method. The object of this study is a 2016 novel by Akiyoshi Rikako Jisatsu Yotei Bi. Data collection carried out in a (1) read and understand the novel, (2) do a library research that have relations to this study, (3) Analyze Ruri’s amae and Hiroaki’s omoiyari, (4) Analyze Ruri’s and Hiroaki’s characterizations, (5) Analyze characterizations as the causes of
amae and omoiyari, (6) make conclusion. The result of this study is, first, Ruri fulfills three Japanese culture values that are, amae, on, and omoiyari. Hiroaki fulfills two Japanese culture values that are,
seishin and omoiyari. Seishin is related to omoiyari because seishin contains mental strength, intelligence, and desire. Second, Ruri has 10 characterizations, five characterizations cause amae, that are pessimistic, lose hope, weak, loyal, and loving. Ruri's characterization changes from pessimistic to enthusiasm after accepting
omoiyari from Hiroaki. Furthermore, Ruri has 7 characterizations, in which five cause omoiyari, that are intelligent, caring, helpful, patient, and persistent. These characterizations are reflection of the culture value of seishin.
