Abstract

INTRODUCTION Code mixing in which people, then, are usually required to select a particular code whenever they choose to speak, and they may also decide to switch from one code to another or to mix codes even within sometimes very short utterances and thereby create a new code in a process known as code-switching called code-mixing Wardhaugh (2006) [1]. In sociolinguistics, there are many ways to analyze code mixing, to avoid the same explanations with some of topic. Because of that the researcher requires some previous studies for reviews. There are several researches did the analysis about code mixing as their research topic. Yanti (2003) [2], she did a research on code switching and code mixing in Bahasa Indonesia Dalam Editorial Media Indonesia. Her research data were randomly collected from February 19-May 24, 2003. From the data collected, it was found the use of Bahasa decorated with codes or code / language mixing (Code Mixing) such as English, other foreign languages, and regional languages. In this research, the researcher has difference data with the previous one. From the previous research the researcher found no research that analyzed about code mixing in Youtube. Therefore the researcher is interested to analyze code mixing used in the Boy Williams Youtube channel Nebengboy S2. This study aims to analyze what are the types and also what are the functions of using code mixing in Nebengboy S2. There are some problems that have been analyzed from Boy Williams Youtube channel Nebengboy S2. In this case, code mixing can be learned in several types, and the researcher chooses the theory stated by Muysken (2000) [3] they are insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. And, function of code mixing theory by Hoffmann (1991) [4]. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY This research is qualitative research using descriptive methods. Qualitative method is a scientific observation method for collecting non-numerial data. This method refers to the meaning, concept definition, metaphor, symbol, and description of something according to Cresswell (1994) [5]. The research data were taken from code mixing in conversations between the speakers in the youtube channel Nebengboy S2. In conducting the research, the writer did three research steps, they are collecting, analyzing, and presenting the data of research findings and finally, drawing conclusions from the results obtained. FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION In the research of code mixing used in Boy Williams youtube channel Nebengboy S2, the researcher found 75 data of code mixing used in the conversation as source of data. The data were classified and analyzed for each type and function, the classification of type code mixing that occurs in the conversation of the speakers. Table 1: Types of Code Mixing No Types of Code Mixing Frequency 1 Insertion 37 2 Alternation 28 3 Congruent Lexicalization 10 Total 75 From the table 1, the most type of code mixing used was insertion with 37 data. It is found from the insertion of the word in a sentence. Some data of insertion found is in the form of Indonesian prefix and suffix attached with English word. The second dominant type is alternation with 28 data, in which there are some phrases which was inserted by the author in a sentence. The lowest type used by the speaker is congruent lexicalization. Those were found in 10 sentences. The table below is the classification of data representing all types of code mixing used. Table 2: Types of Code Mixing No Types of Code Mixing Insertion Alternation Congruent Lexicalization 1 “Kita market-nya memang besar banget” “Karena menurut gua public speaking is very important” “Dan gua happy banget bisa men-take over role-nya dia selama ini.” Table 3: Frequency of Functions of using Code Mixing No Functions of using Code Mixing Frequency 1 Talking about particular topic 65 2 Repetition used for clarification 1 3 Expressing group identity 9 Total 75 Code mixing are influenced by functions of using code mixing. The dominant functions of code mixing are talking about particular topic and expressing group identity and repetition used for clarification with the lowest frequency. The speakers mixed Indonesian Language with English because of the function of English insertion Indonesian sentences. Based on the analysis, it was found that prestigious, high level life style, and modern characterization are the most function to use code mixing. The table below is the classification of data representing all functions of using code mixing. Table 4: Data representating all population functions of using code mixing No Functions of using code mixing Talking about particular topic Repetition used for clarification Expressing gorup identity 1 “Terus gua lihat lagi case-nya apa segala.” “Tapi sebelumnya let me go grab breakfast dulu okey gua makan-makan dulu, sarapan. I’l be right back come on come on alright.” “Yang gak pakai stunt man yang harus di kritisi.” CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTIONS CONCLUSION Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that there are some classification of types code mixing that occured in the conversation of the speakers in Nebengboy S2. They covered three types of code mixing, that is insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. On this research, the researcher found 75 data. There are 37 insertion, 28 alternation, and 10 congruent lexicalization and the most function of code mixing that is used by the speaker is talking about particular topic. In this research on Nebengboy S2, insertion is mostly used in conversations between the speakers because it is based by the speaker's lifestyle and education. SUGGESTION To the student of English Department, the writer suggests the students of English Department to do further research using other perspectives or other data sources and to other researchers can conduct further research on more specific code mixing that create broken words due to the use of code mixing with more data, and more in-depth analysis techniques to get the perfect results
