Abstract

INTRODUCTION People who have a high educational background often change their language, in sociolinguistic studies this is called code switching. Code switching is the alternation between two languages in one discourse, sentence, or constituency Poplack (1980) [1]. The research aims to analyze code switching in Chef Juna in Ala Resep Juna Tv Show. There are some problems that can be found from Chef Juna in Ala Resep Juna Tv Show. In this case, code switching can be learned in several types, and the researcher choose the theory by Poplack (1980), which divides code switching into three types and aslo the function of code switching theory by Holmes (2013) [2]. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY In this researcher method, the researcher analyzes the shifting technique in translation based on subtitle film data. Berg (2007) [3] states that qualitative research interprets meaning, concepts, definitions, characteristics, metaphors, symbols and descriptions of things. The research data were taken from code switching in conversations between the speakers in the Ala Resep Juna TV show. In conducting the research, the writer did three research steps, that are collecting, analyzing, and presenting the data of research findings and finaly, drawing conclusions from the results obtained. FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION No Types of Code Switching Frequency 1 Tag Switching 5 2 Inter-sentential Switching 31 3 Intra-sentential Switching 18 Total 54 Table 1: Types of Code Switching From the table above, it shows that tag switching is the lowest frequency, there are 5 cases about tag switching out of total 54 cases. The highest frequency from the table above is inter-sentential switching, it is 31 cases. While intra-sentential switching is the second place, there are 18 cases. This is an example of one type of code switching : Juna: “Versi daripada Fisher Fritz, versi mereka membuat California roll, right? Go ahead, please”. This speech is considered as tag switching because the transition occurs in the form of a clause, and it doesn't interfere with sentence structure. The key word in this speech is "right" and "please", which is an interjection. No The Functions Influenced of Code Switching Frequency 1 Participant, solidarity and status 14 2 Topic 1 3 Switching for affective functions 14 4 Metaphorical switching 25 Total 54 Table 2: The Functions Influenced Using of Code Switching From the table above, it can be seen that participant, solidarity and status there are 14 frequency, and topic is the lowest frequency from a total of 54 cases, there are 1 frequency, and there are 14 cases of switching for affective function. The highest frequency from the table above is metaphorical switching, which is 25 cases. This is an example of functions influenced of code switching, namely participant, solidarity status : Juna: “Jadi ini burung unta nya semua yaa bisa dilihat, how old them do you think?” The function of code switching found in this utterance is participant, solidarity and status. Juna switched his language to English because of the third person in this conversation, where the status of Juna and Lucas was as friends. CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTIONS CONCLUSION On this research, the researcher found 54 data. There are tag switching 5, inter-sentential switching 31, and intra-sentential switching 18. In this research on the Chef Juna in Ala Resep Juna TV Show, intra-sentential switching is mostly used in conversations the speaker and also The function of code switching that found in this research is participant solidarity and status 14 data, topic 1 data, switching for affective function 14 data, and metaphorical switching 25 data. Therefore, the dominant function of code switching used by the speaker is tag switching, switching for affective function and metaphorical switching. SUGGESTION Based on conclusion of the research, the research purposes the following suggestion: 1. To the student of English Department, the writer suggests the students of English Department to do further research using other perspectives or other data sources. 2. For other researchers, other researchers can conduct further research on more specific code switching, with interesting studies, larger data, and more in-depth analysis techniques to get the perfect results.
