Abstract

The paper aims to find the types of presupposition and the implicit information in the
cartoons. In analyzing the data, the writer uses the theories stated by Yule, G (1996:25)
and Renkema, J (1993:154). The data were taken from the website of cartoonstock.
After analyzing the data, the results show that there are six types of presupposition in
the cartoons. The types are existential-presupposition, factive presupposition, lexical
presupposition, structural presupposition, non factive presupposition, and
counterfactual presupposition. In addition, the writer also found the implicit
information that exists in the cartoons. The results have shown that the existentialpresupposition
mostly appears in the cartoons. There is only one text that contains the
counterfactual-presupposition.
