Abstract

Morijio is an object of self-purification in the Shinto religion, and this has been
a belief in the Japanese society. In the self purification of Shinto religion through religious
rituals and also misogi (soul cleansing tradition), either in person or by all members of the
community.
The problem in this thesis is how religion Shinto, of the function morijio in Shinto and
relationship of morijio in the life of the Japanese people and their functions within Japanese
society.
The method used is descriptive, and used the theory of culture and belief theory to
analyze the data.
Based on the results of research through the conclusion of the written data sources,
particularly that dealt with morijio in Shinto, showed that morijio used in the festival that is
conducted by the public in accordance with the objectives of the festival. Morijio is done with
purpose and function as a cleansing or repellent reinforcements, as an application, and as
thank-you note. And morijio used in Japanese at public life today, and performed in daily life
in accordance with the function and purpose of which is believed. In Japan people's lives
morijio intended as a protector, good luck, improve concentration and health.
And with the progress of time, morijio also has growth and change, including birth colorful of
morijio that given beauty and meaning.
