Abstract

In this thesis the writer analyze the developmental psychology middle age of Boku and Ikuko.
The writer is interested to analyzing Kagi (The Key) novel by Tanizaki Jun'ichiro because of
the occurrence changes in self and their live that entering a middle age.
The writer analyzes the characters Boku and Ikuko by using the character by Stanton.
For developmental psychology of middle age the both figures by using the theory of
Developmental Psychology by Hurlock that is the middle age stage.
The developmental psychology of middle age is often happened on Boku with a
presence of changes in physical and mentally changes. That is stress periode, dangerous
period, saturated period, changes of health, sexual change, social adjustment, youthful
idealism, the causes of bad sexual adjustment, the effect of sexual gratification, failure
reached a good relationship with the partner and the level of worry. Boku’s developmental
psychology it is supported by the character in emotion, shocked and act for writing a dairy in
detail about his life and sexual marriage activity. Ikuko’s developmental psychology is not
much than Boku. That is stress periode, dangerous period, change of physical, change of
interest, the causes of bad sexual adjustment, the effect of sexual gratification, opposition to
good relationship with partner, and failure reached a good relationship with the partner.
Ikuko’s developmental psychology supported by character emotion of angry, disappointed
because she is not satisfied in sexual intercourse and that she is sexual fantasies.
