Abstract

Nowadays in Japan, the concept of traditional Japanese family began to experience a shift in the meaning and value, of the large family of systems that preserve and sustainability through the line of descent according to the father of the eldest son to the nuclear family. The meaning and value of marriage is no longer a necessity to do. Young people who are well educated and have good jobs tend to postpone marriage due to the routine of work and economic circumstances that have not been established. This study focuses on young people who tend not to marry or delayed marriage based on real cases. How do young people of Japan to the institution of marriage today and what the meaning of marriage for young people of Japan today. This study uses library research using writing materials such as books, articles, and internet. This study also uses descriptive method. This study uses the concept of a traditional Japanese young generation shift into a modern young people and shift the meaning and value of marriage in Japan. From these results, it can be known about the purpose of marriage today's young generation, which has children as a form of love, emotional support from spouse and economic cooperation to build a happy family.
