ANALYSIS OF VERB-ING IN THE SENTENCES FOUND IN TIME

Abstract

The research studied Verb-Ing of English used in Time. English sentences in the
magazine used various forms and functions of Verb-Ing. The forms and functions
made non-English readers uneasy to understand it that they could misunderstand
the English text. The research was focused on the problem of verb-ing with the
aim of describing the forms, functions, and kind of sentences using Verb-ing. In
order to get reach of the aim, the research was conducted based on English
grammar theory by applying Sudaryanto’s linguistic method. The research
resulted in that The English test used verb-ing as gerund, progressive, participle,
adjective clause, and dangling. The verbs were found in several sentence like
simple sentence, compound sentence, complex sentence, and compound-complex
sentence.
