Abstract

The research entitled “The Study of British Hegemony toward Rhodesian Reflected in Nervous
Condition by Tsitsi Dangarembga” discussed British Hegemony taking place in Rhodesia. The
country was colonized by England for about more than ten years. During the colonial time, the
Rhodesian lived together with the British under the British government. British culture
dominated Rhodesian culture. The British culture hegemonized Rhodesian. The aim was to
describe the British hegemony and how the Rhodesian responded the hegemony. To attain the
aim, the research was held by applying postcolonial theory with historical approach. The
research resulted in that the hegemony of the British existed in the Rhodesian life in the form of
education and tradition. In education, the Rhodesian attended the British schools such as,
Mission School in Rhodesia and school in England. The tradition was realized in language, lifestyle,
food, drink, and meal-custom. The Rhodesian practiced the British cultures in dualism.
They only practice the cultures in a certain situation, not in all situation.
