THE STUDY OF MAIN CHARACTER’S BEHAVIOR AS SEEN IN THE NOVEL A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS BY KHALED HOSSEINI

Abstract

This thesis is about intrinsic analysis of the main character and the setting in a novel entitled A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. The analysis is focus on two goals that are (1) to describe the main character’s behavior and (2) to explain about the triggering factors of the behavior. To conduct the analysis, the writer applied structuralism theory that focuses on main character and setting. In addition, the writer applies content analysis method to analyze the data in order to find out the content and the meaning and close reading technique that requires him to read the whole of the novel for several times to understand the content of the novel. From the analysis, the writer finds that the main character has bad behavior such as arrogant, cruel, and unfair that reflected in treating his family. All of the behavior is triggered by war environment that are abusive and cruel where a man is needed to protect women.
