NOVEL DAN ANIMASI MAJO NO TAKKYUUBIN: PENDEKATAN EKRANISASI

Abstract

In this thesis the writer analyzes the ecranisation of Majo no Takkyuubin (Kiki s Delivery
Service) a novel by Kadono Eiko to animated movie by Miyazaki Hayao. The writer applies
ecranisation theory because there are changes that occur in the plot, character, setting,
atmosphere, and themes. Ecranisation is a transformation of a novel into a movie. The
transformation of the novel into a movie, inevitably leads to several changes, therefore it can be
said that ecranisation is a process of change. The result of the research is there are reductions and
additions to the plot, character, setting, and atmosphere. Whereas, varied changes are found in the
plot, character, setting, and theme in order to be different from the original novel. One example is
the setting of place which is inspired by the city of Visby, Goldland, Sweden since the director
was impressed by that city.
