SELF-ACTUALIZATION OF MAIN CHARACTER’S IN NOVEL DENSHA OTOKO BY HITORI NAKANO: PSYCHOLOGY ABRAHAM MASLOW

Abstract

The writer is interested to analyze the main character’s (Densha Otoko) psychology
since it is related with the characterization of the main character which appear from the
beginning until the end of the novel Densha Otoko (Train Man). The writer analyzes the
main character’s psychology by using Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. In analyzing the main
character’s psychology, the writer applies the method of characterization of fiction
u s i n g indirect method (showing). The main character has fulfilled all of his hierarchy of
needs thats support with his character courageus, keeping promise, honest, attention and shy. The
self-actualization needs is achieved by have a gril friend with his otaku custom. With his
talents and knowledge about computer, his join and have friends at group chatting in the 2
Channels. From this group his receive sugestion and advice thet he can have a girl friend. He’s
never imagine that he can fulfilled his self-actualization. An otaku who never contact with
another people have a girl friend.
