AN ANALYSIS OF THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES OF SMP N 2 GUNUANG OMEH IN COMPLETING QUESTION TAGS SENTENCE IN SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE

Abstract

According to English teachers of SMP N 2 Gunuang Omeh, the students still had difficulties in completing question tags. This research was aimed to describe the second year students’ difficulties of SMP N 2 Gunuang Omeh in completing question tags sentence in simple present tense. The design of this research was descriptive. The number of population members was 53 students. The writer used cluster random sampling to choose the sample. Total number of the sample was 29 students. The writer used completion test as a instrument. To find out the reliability, the writer tried out the test. It was found that the reliability index of the test was very high (0,84). The data of this research were students’ difficulties in writing question tags. Generally, the result data analysis showed that 72% had difficulties in completing question tags sentence in simple present tense. Specifically, 62% had difficulties in completing question tags sentence of simple sentence, 59% had difficulties in completing question tags sentence of compound sentence, 52% had difficulties in completing question tags sentence of complex sentence, and 52% had difficulties in completing question tags sentence of compound complex sentence in simple present tense. Referring to the result of this research, it was concluded that students had difficulties in completing question tags sentence in simple present tense.
