Abstrak

Social Sciences is a science that examines various disciplines of social science and humanities as well as basic human activities that are packaged scientifically in order to provide insight and deep understanding to students, especially at the elementary and secondary levels. In learning at school, teachers tend to use the lecture method which causes students to feel bored quickly in learning. Lack of students' desire to ask questions, even though they have not mastered the material taught by the teacher. This can be seen when the teacher gives questions, only three or four students are able to answer the teacher's questions and students do not think critically in an effort to solve the problems of the question and also the unavailability of teaching materials that more facilitate students such as Contextual-based modules. Therefore, the researcher conducted a development research entitled "Development of Contextual-Based Social Studies Learning Module for Elementary School V Students". The type of research conducted is Research and Development (R&D) research using a 4-D development model, namely, Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate. However, due to time constraints, this research only reached the Develop stage. The trial subjects for the development of the social studies learning module were the fifth grade students of SD Negeri 04 Koto Ranah, totaling 15 students. In the validation stage, the module that has been designed is followed by validation activities by a validator consisting of 3 lecturers from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Bung Hatta University. For the practicality stage, it is carried out after the module is validated and feasible to be tested with the aim of knowing the level of practicality of the learning module that has been made. Based on the results of research on the development of character-based social studies learning modules, an overall average validity of 88.42% was obtained with validity, while for the average practicality by teachers and students obtained an overall average of 87.21% with practical criteria . From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the development of this contextual-based social studies learning module is valid and practical to use in social studies learning, so it can be used as one of the teaching materials in learning in class V SD Negeri 04 Koto Ranah.
