Indonesian is one of the fields of study taught in elementary schools. Language has afunction as a means of communication for humans, both verbal and written communication. In theworld of language education, it has a role in the intellectual, social, emotional development ofphysical participants, as well as supporting success in studying the field of study. In teachingIndonesian, there are four language skills that a student must possess, namely: listening skills, speaking skills, reading skills, and writing skills. One of these four skills is reading. Reading is aprocess that is carried out to get the message that the writer wants to convey through written media.Reading comprehension is an activity that demands a skill to be able to understand and master thecontents of the reading. Based on the results of observations that researchers made in class V SD N 24 Ujung Gurunon November 15 2022. (1) The class atmosphere was not conducive during the learning process, (2)Students did not ask questions about the material being studied, (3) Students did not cooperate indiscussions, (4) The lack of student interest in participating in learning resulted in unsatisfactorystudent skills, (5) students' reading skills were still not optimal, (6) The low scores of students inlearning Indonesian made researchers take a suitable learning model for learning Indonesian. , (7)Low students' understanding of reading affects students' grades, (8) Students' readingcomprehension skills are still not optimal seen in learning to identify a reading text. Based on the first semester PH scores in class V SD Negeri 24 Ujung Gurun, it can be seenthat the KKM for Indonesian Language reached 85 so that only 10 out of 26 students completedthis Indonesian subject. Based on the background of the problem, the researcher is interested inconducting research with the title "Improving Reading Comprehension Skills in Historical Narrative Texts Through the Think Paire Share (TPS) Model of Class V SD Negeri 24 UjungGurun, Padang City" This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). This research was conducted intwo cycles, each cycle consisting of two meetings and a final test. The subjects of this study were26 students of class V SD Negeri 24 Ujung Gurun, Padang City. The research instruments usedwere student activity sheets, and teacher activity sheets, and learning achievement tests. Based on the learning outcomes test, obtained an average in cycle I of 18.07% with anaverage of 69.23% and an increase in cycle II of 78.07% with an average of 81.15% an increasefrom cycle I to cycle II by 11.92%. From the results of the study it can be concluded that learningIndonesian in reading using the Think Paire Share (TPS) model can improve the readingcomprehension skills of fifth grade students at SD Negeri 24 Ujung Gurun, Padang City.Referensi
