" Improving Reading Comprehension Skills by applying the CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) models for grade V students of SD Negeri 02 Sitiung, Dharmasraya Regency
Abstrak
This research is motivated by a lack of reading comprehension skills for fifth grade students at SDN 02 Sitiung, Dharmasraya Regency, which is caused when the learning process takes place, the teacher does not motivate students, so students pay less attention to the teacher, as a result, students do not understand the contents of the reading they have read, the teacher has not used a model that is in accordance with learning. The purpose of this study was to describe the process of increasing the value of students' reading skills learning outcomes in determining the main ideas in reading using the CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) model. For this reason, the solution that fits this problem is that researchers are interested in conducting classroom action research on fifth grade students at SD Negeri 02 Sitiung, Dharmasraya Regency by applying the CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) model. The theory used in this study is the theory of reading comprehension skills with the CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) model put forward by Istarani (2012). The essence of the CIRC model is a collaborative learning model that is heterogeneous by using small group divisions consisting of 4-5 students in each group. The research hypothesis is that applying the CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) model can improve students' reading comprehension skills to 85%. The research method is using a class action research (CAR). The subjects of this study were 22 grade V students at SDN 02 Sitiung, Dharmasraya Regency. This research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of two meetings or lessons. The research instruments used were teacher assessment activity sheets, student assessment activity sheets, and student reading comprehension skills test sheets. The results of assessing teacher activity in the first cycle were 61.11%, in the second cycle it was 88.89%, an increase of 22.22%. Assessment of student activity in the first cycle was 61.11% and in the second cycle it was 88.89%, which increased by 27.78%. The completeness of the learning outcomes of students' reading comprehension skills in cycles I and II, obtained the percentage of students' reading comprehension skills in cycle I of 63.64% with an average learning outcome of 72.27 and increased in cycle II of 90.91% with an average the value of learning outcomes 89.09 increased by 27.31%. From the results of the study it can be concluded that learning Indonesian in reading comprehension skills using the CIRC model can improve the reading comprehension skills of fifth grade students at SDN 02 Sitiung, Dharmasraya RegencyReferensi
