THE EFFECT OF USING SERIAL PICTURE MEDIA ON NARRATIVE TEXT WRITING SKILLS OF FOURTH-GRADE STUDENTS AT SDN 18 KINALI, PASAMAN BARAT

Writing skills are one of the essential aspects of learning the Indonesian language in elementary school. However, observations show that fourth-grade students at SDN 18 Kinali Pasaman Barat struggle with writing narrative texts. This issue arises due to the lecture method, which does not actively engage students, and the lack of instructional media use. Therefore, this study aims to determine the influence of using picture series media on students' narrative text writing skills in fourth grade at SDN 18 Kinali Pasaman Barat. This research is an experimental study with a quantitative approach using a quasiexperimental design. The study population consists of all fourth-grade students at SDN 18 Kinali Pasaman Barat, totaling 40 students. The total sampling technique was used, where the entire population was included as the sample, with class IV A as the experimental class and class IV B as the control class. Data collection techniques involved writing skill tests conducted before and after treatment (pretest and posttest). Data analysis utilized an independent t-test to test the research hypothesis. The results indicate a significant improvement in students' narrative writing skills after using picture series media. The average pretest score for the experimental class was 57.00, while the control class scored 62.25. After treatment, the posttest score in the experimental class increased to 87.25, whereas the control class only reached 63.25. The t-test results showed a significance value of 0.000, which is lower than 0.05, leading to the conclusion that the use of picture series media significantly influences the improvement of students' narrative text writing skills. This study demonstrates that using picture series media enhances students' writing skills by providing a more concrete representation and assisting them in structuring story ideas.
