AN ANALYSIS OF THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS’ WRITING ABILITY ON AN ANALYTICAL EXPOSITION TEXT AT SMA N 2 SUNGAI LIMAU

This research aimed at describing the second grade students’  writing ability on an analytical exposition text at SMAN 2 Sungai Limau. The design of this research was descriptive. The population of this research was the scond grade students of SMAN 2 Sungai Limau. The total population was 181 students, distributed into six classes, 3 classes of IPA and 3 classes of IPS. IPA 1 and IPS 3 were used as research sample, the two classes consisted of 46 students. In selecting sample, the researcher used stratified cluster random sampling. To collect the data the researcher used writing test. The result of the data analysis showed that the students’ writing ability on an analytical exposition text at SMAN 2 Sungai Limau was moderate. Based on the result of this research, the researcher gave suggestions to the teacher, students and the next researchers. English teachers are suggested to improve their teaching learning process and give more exercises especially in writing. The students are expected to learn more about analytical exposition text and do some exercises to improve their ability. The researcher suggests the next researchers to find out the best method in teaching English for the English teachers in writing.
