AN ANALYSIS OF THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING AN ANALYTICAL EXPOSITION TEXT AT SMAN 1 NAN SABARIS PARIAMAN

Abstrak

Abstract This research aimed at describing the second grade students’ ability in writing an analytical exposition text at SMAN 1 Nan Sabaris Pariaman. The design of this research was descriptive research design. The population of this research was the second grade students of SMAN 1 Nan Sabaris Pariaman. The total population was 272 students. They were distributed into eight classes, 4 classes of Exact Science and 4 classes of Social Science. In selecting sample, the researcher used stratified cluster random sampling. Exact Science 1 and Social Science 2 were used as class sample, the sample members were 54 students from 65 students of class sample members. To collect the data the researcher used writing test. The result of the data analysis showed that the students’ ability in writing an analytical exposition text at SMAN 1 Nan Sabaris Pariaman was moderate. Based on the result of this research, the researcher gave suggestions to the teacher, students’, and the next researchers. English teachers are suggested to improve their teaching learning process and give more exercises especially in writing. The students are expected to learn more about analytical exposition text and do some exercises to improve their ability. The researcher suggests the next researchers to find out the best method in teaching English for the English teachers in writing.
