Abstract

CV Simas Fiberglass is a manufacturing company engaged in the production of fiberglass, one of which is slides. Based on preliminary observation reports, there are still many production process activities that are carried out manually, until the preparation of supporting materials / equipment has not been put in place. In such conditions, there is a possibility that it will cause waste. Therefore, with the concept of lean manufacturing, an identification process is carried out in order to minimize the waste found. Lean manufacturing is a systematic approach to identify and eliminate waste that occurs in the company. This identification process uses a Waste Assessment Model (WAM). Meanwhile, to find the root cause of the waste problem is to use a fishbone diagram. From the results of waste identification using WAM, it was found that the 3 largest wastes were defects of 18.60%, excess transportation of 15.91% and waiting time of 15.87%. To identify the root cause of the waste problem using a fishbone diagram, it is found that the root of the problem is that the operator does not carry out scheduled maintenance, the raw material area is not well ordered and the layout is poor. Based on the root cause of the problem, the proposed improvements are to confirm and improve the implementation of company maintenance, increase the implementation of the 5s concept on the production floor and review the company layout.
