THE PLANNING OF TOURISM REGION IN A LONG OF COASTAL CORRIDOR OF TUAPEJAT, MENTAWAI

Abstract

The tourism region planning in coastal corridor of Tua Pejat was the planning toward the hall building as the regional identity and other support facility. The position of the coast of Tuapejat was in the strategies line of vessel transportation geographically, it made the region become main port of the capital of Mentawai Island. As main port of the capital, the coast of Tuapejat should have identity. The elements of the culture of Sabulungan that believe to the spirit become a tourism area identity in along of coastal corridor of Tuapejat. The belief of Sabulungan aged 1500 bc the activities of pray to the spirit about 85% was conducted in the inside of “Uma” it is a larger house building which become vernacular architectural work of mentawai. The signs of vernacular architectural work of mentawai can be seen from the form of roof. The model of roof becomes exclusive identity for the area. The cultural components were in the wall side of “Uma”like “jaraik”: also become identifiable ornaments of the area. Jaraic was the communication media to throw the bad spirit away and bring the good spirit, those are “ tai katubut oinan (the spirit was occupied in the river flow), tai kabagat koat  (the spirit was occupied in the sea) and tai kaleleu/tai kamanua  (the spirit was occupied in the mountain/the sky).  The main components were in the planning of tourism area in along coastal corridor of Tuapejat was the planning of the hall building. It becomes the identifiable area which was built monumental become the main core strength of Sabulungan. It becomes a media to be prayer by sikere (witch) which was watched by tourist who comes to Tuapejat. This building becomes the place of ritual to call the spirit.
