Abstract

The Bukittinggi Railway Station is a Dutch colonial railway station that started operating in 1891 and was initially used to transport coffee beans. It continued to serve passengers even after the independence of the Republic of Indonesia until it ceased operations in 1986. In 2021, the Bukittinggi city government collaborated with PT KAI to rent the railway land and came up with the idea of building the most significant culinary area in West Sumatra. The government aims to create a new landmark that will become a tourist icon in Bukitinggi. The establishment of this culinary tourism center and the reallocation of Indonesian railway land will also help reduce the number of vehicles around the clock tower and the canteen field area. The goal of this research is to realize the city government's aspirations. The method used is qualitative, which involves reading railway journals, especially Bukittinggi, and identifying ways to preserve cultural heritage land's value while putting it to good use. A field survey was also conducted to determine the needs of the general public who will later become actors in the primary part of the Bukittinggi culinary tourism area.
