Abstract

This study focuses on the design proposal for a Museum of History & Culture within the precincts of the Van Der Capellen Fortress, situated in Batusangkar City, Tanah Datar Regency. The research aims to address the need for a dedicated space to preserve and showcase the rich historical and cultural heritage of the region. The methodology involves a comprehensive analysis of the historical significance of the fortress and its surrounding area, as well as an assessment of the cultural assets and artifacts pertinent to the locality. Through a combination of architectural, cultural, and historical analyses, the study proposes a design framework for the museum, considering factors such as spatial layout, thematic exhibits, conservation strategies, and community engagement. Furthermore, the research investigates sustainable practices and technologies to integrate into the museum's design, ensuring long-term viability and minimal environmental impact. The proposed museum design not only serves as a repository of the region's heritage but also as a catalyst for cultural revitalization and tourism development in Batusangkar City and its environs. Overall, this research contributes to the discourse on heritage conservation and adaptive reuse, offering insights into the design and implementation of cultural institutions within historic urban contexts.
