Abstract

This study aims to design the catechins and tannins industry from gambier leaves with an ecotech approach in Fifty City Regency. Gambier (Uncaria gambir Roxb.) is one of the leading commodities of this region that has great potential to be utilized in the green chemical industry. Catechins and tannins, the two main compounds contained in gambier leaves, have diverse applications in the pharmaceutical, food, cosmetics, and other industries. The ecotech approach method is used to design this industry with attention to the principles of sustainability and minimization of environmental impact. The main steps in the design include analysis of local resources, environmentally friendly production processes, waste management, and the integration of green technology in the entire production cycle. This research produces industrial designs that consider the optimal use of local resources, minimize emissions and waste, and pay attention to the ecological balance of the local area. In addition, the eco-tech approach applied ensures that the production process of catechins and tannins from gambier leaves takes place in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. The results of this study are expected to make a positive contribution to the development of gambier-based industries in Fifty City District while preserving the environment and promoting sustainable economic growth in the region. Keywords: Gambir leaves, Catechin, Tannin, Eco-tech, Environmentally friendly industry
