Abstract

Housing is a fundamental human need that must provide comfort and safety for its occupants. Achieving comfort requires designing spaces that meet the specific standards and needs of users. Recognizing the strong connection between the community and its environment, as well as the importance of preserving local values, the Organic Concept was selected to balance traditional values with innovative design in housing development. In this context, the study applies the Organic Concept to Vertical Housing, focusing on the development of healthy and affordable living environments. The approach addresses key issues in coastal areas of Padang Barat Subdistrict, such as disorganized settlement patterns, inefficient land use, and inadequate sanitation, drainage, waste management, and access systems. The Urban Village Planning in Flamboyan Baru utilizes Organic Architecture principles to create a sustainable and livable community. Interventions include reorganizing settlement patterns, optimizing land use, and improving critical infrastructure. Additionally, the design preserves local cultural values by integrating the Communal Space concept, strengthening social ties within the community. This holistic approach balances environmental, social, and economic aspects, promoting a healthy, affordable living environment that reflects the unique characteristics of a productive urban village. The outcome is a housing model that harmonizes modern needs with local traditions, providing a resilient solution for urban living in coastal areas, ensuring that residents enjoy a high quality of life while maintaining a strong sense of community and cultural identity.
