Abstract

The market is a central meeting place between sellers and buyers that not only reflects the social life of the community but also serves as an important economic means and fulfillment of various daily needs. Along with rapid urban development, the emergence of modern supermarkets in the 1970s in Indonesia has significantly and rapidly changed the retail landscape. To preserve the traditional market and make it a regional icon that remains relevant, the revitalization of Bawah Bukittinggi Market is carried out with the theme of Community Interaction Space. This research uses qualitative methods and SWOT analysis to explore design theories and relevant recent concepts. The research process includes identifying existing problems and opportunities, primary and secondary data collection through various literature sources, field observations, and documentation, and in-depth data analysis to formulate the most appropriate design concept. The design concept taken is the Hybrid Concept. This concept combines local and modern elements, inspired by the Bada Mudiak Rumah Gadang carving motif from West Sumatra. It applies transformation to the building envelope which aims to preserve local culture while meeting today's needs. Keywords: Traditional Market, Revitalization, Community Interaction Space, Hybrid Concept.
