Abstract

The West Sumatra Province Tourism Office is currently located in the Padang PUPR Office building as it has not yet acquired its own space. The office's current conditions are inadequate, with cramped workspaces, insufficient facilities such as toilets, and no prayer room. This situation has the potential to hinder the development of tourism due to the inconvenience it causes in carrying out activities in the office. This research aims to propose a new design for the West Sumatra Province Tourism Office using an open space approach in Batang Arau City. The purpose of this research is to improve employee performance in developing tourism potential in West Sumatra and to support sustainable development. The proposed design will be aligned with the needs of a community-focused tourism framework. The research methods used are qualitative, including in-depth interviews, analysis of office space needs, and a design approach that is contextual to the Batang Arau environment. The result of this research is a design proposal for the Tourism Office that integrates interesting architectural elements such as carvings, audiovisual spaces, UMKM exhibitions, as well as a unique water facade. These elements aim to attract tourists and promote the local culture of West Sumatra. Keywords : Provincial Department Offices, open plan office, tourism
