Abstract
Almost every modern city in the world has well-preserved old area since the city was founded. In Kota Padang, the area is known as Kawasan Padang Kota Lama. The old buildings and Batang Arau River bear witness to how prosperous the area was at that time. However, with the expansion and modernization of the city, the old area has been increasingly ignored. Abandoned buildings, the identity of old area is lost and have turned it into a deserted area. This study aims to find a way to revive the old area, preserve old buildings and provide a learning forum for the local community about how important the historical value of the Old Padang City Area is, as the starting point for the development of Kota Padang. The methodology employed is descriptive qualitative, which involves tracing various sources such as literature studies and precedent studies as design guidelines and direct observation of existing conditions used as design considerations. The design process involves infilling new buildings around the old buildings and using multisensory design so that the information center of Kota Padang can be experienced by the human sense, providing unique educational experiences for the blind, deaf and all people.
