Abstract
The concept of collective housing has been designed for groups of families or individuals who share a compound or building with shared facilities as the primary priority. The intent is to maximize land utilization, reduce construction and maintenance costs, and encourage social interaction and togetherness among residents. This research is focused on areas that face challenges such as flooding and infrastructure deficiencies. Innovative and sustainable solutions are expected to be found with the collective housing approach. Providing public facilities such as playgrounds, multipurpose rooms, and green spaces can enhance the quality of life for locals and provide a platform for social and cultural activities. The building design is environmentally friendly and flood-resistant so that the safety and welfare of residents are guaranteed. This concept aims to utilize land efficiently, reduce construction and maintenance costs, and increase social interaction and community cohesion. The qualitative research methodology involves various data collection techniques, such as comprehensive interviews, field surveys, and assessments of the literature. It is anticipated that this research will significantly contribute by identifying the challenges and needs of settlements along the river in Koto Baru The Lubuk Begalung Sub-district's Nan XX Village, Padang, Indonesia.
