Publication Ethics and Malpractices Guidelines of Jurnal Lentera Humaniora

Jurnal Lentera Humaniora is a peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes scholarly articles in the fields of humanities, language, literature, culture, linguistics, applied linguistics, language teaching, translation studies, English literature, Japanese literature, and English applied linguistics. The journal is committed to upholding ethical standards in all stages of the publication process and expects all parties involved, including authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers, to follow principles of academic integrity, transparency, fairness, and responsibility.

Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, and Editorial Board

Liabilities

Jurnal Lentera Humaniora has an editorial team consisting of the Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, and Editorial Board. All members of the editorial team are responsible for ensuring that the publication process is conducted professionally, ethically, and transparently.

The duties and responsibilities of the editorial team are as follows:

  1. The Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor receive manuscripts submitted by authors to Jurnal Lentera Humaniora.
  2. Manuscripts submitted to the journal are assigned by the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor to members of the Editorial Board for an initial review process. This process aims to evaluate the suitability of the manuscript with the journal’s scope, author guidelines, originality, and basic academic quality.
  3. Jurnal Lentera Humaniora applies a peer-review process to ensure the quality of published articles. Manuscripts that pass the initial review will be sent to at least two independent reviewers who have expertise relevant to the topic of the manuscript.
  4. The review results are submitted to the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor. Based on the reviewers’ recommendations, the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor makes an editorial decision. The decision may include accepted, accepted with revision, resubmitted for review, or rejected.
  5. If revisions are required, the authors must revise the manuscript according to the reviewers’ and editors’ comments. Revised manuscripts may be re-evaluated by the editorial team or reviewers before a final decision is made.
  6. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for determining the readiness of manuscripts for publication and for ensuring that the publication schedule is properly managed.
  7. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for leading editorial meetings. Editorial meetings may be conducted to discuss manuscript decisions, publication schedules, journal policies, and the finalization of each issue. If the Editor-in-Chief is unavailable, the Managing Editor or an appointed editor may carry out these duties.

Fairness

Editorial decisions are made based on the quality, originality, relevance, academic contribution, and suitability of the manuscript with the scope of Jurnal Lentera Humaniora. Decisions are made without discrimination based on religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, gender, institutional affiliation, political views, or other personal background of the authors.

Confidentiality

The editorial team must maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts before publication. Editors must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, editorial board members, or other parties directly involved in the publication process.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Editors must avoid conflicts of interest in handling manuscripts. Unpublished materials disclosed in submitted manuscripts must not be used by editors for personal research or other purposes without written permission from the authors. Editorial decisions must be based on academic merit and the peer-review process.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Reviewers play an important role in assisting the Editor-in-Chief and editorial team in making editorial decisions. Reviewers’ evaluations also help authors improve the quality, clarity, and academic contribution of their manuscripts.

Appropriateness

Reviewers should only accept manuscripts that are relevant to their field of expertise. If a reviewer feels unqualified to review a manuscript, has a conflict of interest, or is unable to complete the review within the given time, the reviewer should inform the editor immediately so that another reviewer can be appointed.

Confidentiality

Every manuscript received for review must be treated as a confidential document. Reviewers must not share, discuss, or disclose the content of the manuscript to unauthorized parties. Review results must be submitted only to the editor through the journal’s official review system or communication channel.

Objectivity

Reviewers must provide objective, constructive, and scholarly feedback. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should clearly express their comments and recommendations with supporting arguments.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers are expected to identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the authors. Reviewers should also inform the editor if they find any indication of plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, citation manipulation, or other forms of publication misconduct.

Responsibilities of Authors

Reporting Standards

Authors must present their research clearly, accurately, and honestly. The manuscript should include sufficient detail and references to allow readers to understand the research background, methods, results, discussion, and contribution. Authors must follow the author guidelines of Jurnal Lentera Humaniora when preparing and submitting their manuscripts.

Originality

Authors must ensure that the submitted manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere. Any ideas, theories, data, quotations, or works taken from other sources must be properly cited. Plagiarism in any form is strictly prohibited.

Plagiarism and Similarity

Authors are encouraged to check the originality of their manuscript using plagiarism detection tools before submission. Manuscripts that contain plagiarism, excessive similarity, or improper citation practices may be rejected by the journal. If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the journal may issue a correction, clarification, or retraction.

Multiple Submissions

Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time. A manuscript submitted to Jurnal Lentera Humaniora must not be under review or consideration by another journal. If the manuscript has been rejected or officially withdrawn, the author may submit it to another journal.

Authorship

All listed authors must have made significant contributions to the research and writing of the manuscript. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission to Jurnal Lentera Humaniora.

Errors in Publication

Authors are responsible for checking the final version of the manuscript before publication. If authors find significant errors or inaccuracies in their published article, they must immediately inform the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor. Corrections should be clearly stated and supported by appropriate evidence.

Responsibilities of the Publisher

The publisher of Jurnal Lentera Humaniora supports the editorial team in maintaining academic integrity, editorial independence, and ethical publishing practices. The publisher is responsible for ensuring that the journal management follows ethical standards and respects intellectual property rights, copyright, privacy, and transparency.

The publisher works with the editorial team to establish and review journal policies, particularly those related to editorial independence, peer review, research ethics, authorship, conflicts of interest, corrections, retractions, and publication misconduct.

The publisher also supports the investigation of suspected ethical violations and assists the editorial team in publishing corrections, clarifications, or retractions when necessary.

Research Ethics Involving Human Participants

Research in the fields of humanities, language, literature, linguistics, applied linguistics, education, translation, and cultural studies may involve human participants, such as students, teachers, respondents, interviewees, communities, or cultural informants.

Authors must ensure that research involving human participants is conducted ethically. This includes obtaining informed consent when necessary, respecting participants’ privacy, maintaining confidentiality, and ensuring that participation is voluntary. Personal data, interview transcripts, recordings, and other sensitive information must be handled responsibly.

For research involving vulnerable groups, sensitive cultural issues, classroom-based research, or community-based studies, authors must ensure that the research does not harm participants or communities. When required by the institution, authors should obtain ethical clearance or research permission before conducting the study.

Publication Misconduct

Publication misconduct includes, but is not limited to, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate submission, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, citation manipulation, misuse of research data, and unethical treatment of research participants.

If publication misconduct is suspected, the editorial team of Jurnal Lentera Humaniora will investigate the case carefully and fairly. The authors may be asked to provide clarification or supporting evidence. If misconduct is confirmed, the journal may take appropriate action, including manuscript rejection, article correction, article retraction, or notification to the relevant institution.

Corrections and Retractions

Jurnal Lentera Humaniora is committed to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record. Corrections may be issued when a published article contains errors that do not invalidate the overall findings. Retractions may be issued when an article contains serious ethical violations, unreliable findings, plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other major problems that affect the validity of the publication.

All corrections and retractions will be handled transparently by the editorial team according to the severity of the case.

Ethical Commitment
