Abstract

Based on Article 75 of Law No. 1 of 2014 concerning amendments to Law No. 27
of 2007 concerning Management of Coastal Areas and Small Islands in carrying
out management must have a management permit. There are 186 islands in West
Sumatra whose sea spaces are used as tourism objects. In general, the islands are
not well managed. One of the islands that do not have management permission is
Sirandah Island. The problems of this study are: (1) how is the handling of
criminal acts in the management of illegal coastal areas through non-penal efforts
by the West Sumatra Regional Water and Air Police Directorate? (2) What is the
effectiveness of the handling of criminal acts in the management of illegal coastal
areas by Ditpolairud on the resilience of coastal areas? This study used a sociolegal approach. The data used include primary data and secondary data. Primary
data was collected by interview and questionnaire, while secondary data was
collected by study of documents. The collected data was analyzed qualitatively.
Based on the research it was concluded that: 1. The West Sumatra Regional
Police's Water and Air Police Directorate has made non-legal efforts in tackling
criminal acts in the management of illegal coastal areas through several activities
and approaches. These activities and approaches have been implemented
well. 2. Efforts to deal with criminal acts in the management of illegal coastal
areas by Ditpolairud against resilience of coastal areas have been effectively
implemented.
