PENGARUH TEKNIK PEMETAAN PIKIRAN DAN KEMAMPUAN AWAL TERHADAP KETERAMPILAN MENULIS LAPORAN PERJALANAN SISWA KELAS VIII SMP NEGERI 7 PADANG
Abstract
This research was aimed at revealing: (1) the effect of using mind-mapping technique on the
students’ skill to write journey reports in class VIII of SMP Negeri 7 Padang, (2) the effect of
using mapping technique on the skill to write journey report of the students having high
previous knowledge in class VIII of SMP Negeri 7 Padang, (3) the effect of using mapping
technique on the skill to write journey report of the students having low previous knowledge in
class VIII of SMP Negeri 7 Padang, (4) the interaction between mind-mapping technique and
previous knowledge on the students’ skill to write journey report in class VIII of SMP Negeri 7
Padang. This research applied several theories which were derived from Hamalik’s point of
view on the importance of recognizing learners’ previous knowledge (2002), Buzan’s account
of strategies and benefits of using mind mapping (2009), the notion about writing from Semi
(1990) and Thahar (2008), and Poerwadarminta’s opinion about report (1990). This was a
quantitative research which used experimental method and treatment by block design. The
population of the research was all of students in class VIII of SMP Negeri 7 Padang registered
in Academic Year 2013/2014. By using purposive sampling technique, the students in class
VIII4 and VIII7 were chosen as the sample. The data gathered was analyzed by using t-test and
Anava. The data was processes by using SPSS program version 15.00. The result of the research
indicated that: (1) the use of mind-mapping technique affected the students’ skill to write
journey report in class VIII of SMP Negeri 7 Padang, (2) the skill to write journey report of the
students having high previous knowledge taught by using mind-mapping technique was better
than those taught by using conventional technique in class VIII of SMP Negeri 7 Padang, (3) the
skill to write journey report of the students having low previous knowledge taught by using
mind-mapping technique was better than those taught by using conventional technique in class
VIII of SMP Negeri 7 Padang, and (4) there was no interaction between mind-mapping
technique and previous knowledge toward the students’ skill to write journey report in class
VIII of SMP Negeri 7 Padang. Based on the results of the research it was concluded that
the skill to write journey reports of the students taught by using mind-mapping technique
was better than that of students taught by using conventional technique. In addition, the
skill to write journey reports of the students having either high or low previous knowledge
taught by using mind-mapping technique was better than that of students taught by using
conventional technique
