UNSUR-UNSUR INTRINSIK DAN NILAI-NILAI PENDIDIKAN KARAKTER DALAM NOVEL DE WINST KARYA AFIFAH AFRA SERTA IMPLIKASINYA TERHADAP PEMBELAJARAN BAHASA DAN SASTRA INDONESIA PADA KURIKULUM 2013
Abstract
Character building is not easy to achieve. One way to motivate and educate thestudents to build good characters by understanding the ideas and the main elements
of literary works. This paper deals with a study of the intrinsic elements in a novel
that relates to the education of character, and their implications towards learning
language and literature in Bahasa Indoesia in order to support the Curriculum 2013.
The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative method. Data from this
study were taken from the novel De Winst written by Afra Afifah. In analyzing the
data the writer used a number of theoretical concepts such as the principles
(Muhardi and Hasanuddin W.S.,2006), the concepts of character (Prayitno and
Khaidir, 2010), and the concepts of language learning (Jufri, 2012). From data
analysis, the results show (1) the use of the main elements in terms of intinsic
elements, such as characterization, setting, and plot, (2) values related to the
education of character, and (3) the implications of the research on the learning of
language and literature in Bahasa Indonesia. In conclusion, this novel has a lot of
educational character and values to be taught to the students, such as being honest,
religious, smart, polite, tough, responsibilty, and care among others. All of these are
reflected in the intrinsic elements used. Those characters can be studied by the
students while learning the Indonesian language and literature as well as motivating
them to apply. Therefore, it is suggested for teachers to use a novel or other literary
works to teach a good behavior to the students.
