One of the problems faced by Eleventh Year Students of IPA 2 SMA Negeri I Tanjung
Raya in learning Indonesian Language is the lack of ability to write drama script. The
students’ low ability was obtained from the initial tests (prasiklus) which was conducted by
a teacher to 24 students. The results of the initial test was only 3 students who have
reached completeness and 21 students have not reached completeness with an average
value of 65.96. One cause that make the students’ low ability in writng drama script was
the fact that students have not gained a lot of knowledge on writing drama script. In fact,
to improve the students’ ability in writing drama script, classroom action research had to
be done by applying the Gerlach and Ely’s Learning Model because the learning Strategy
which was used in this model based on the students’ knowledge. This research was aimed
to describe the increasing in the learning process and improving students’ learning
outcomes in writing drama script. Implementation of this study began in July to November
2015. During the study researcher collaborated with two Indonesian language teachers in
order to get the qualitative and quantitative data. Based on the research results, the
increasing of students’ ability in writing drama script at the first cycle with the average
value of 65.96 into 77.25 with good criteria, the second cycle of 77.25 into 84.54 with
good criteria, and the third cycle of 84.54 to 91,17 with very good criteria. Based on the
data above the researcher concluded that the application of Gerlach and Ely’s Learning
Models could improve the students’ ability in writing drama script for Eleventh Year
Students of IPA 2 SMA Negeri I Tanjung Raya Agam Regency. Thus Gerlach and Ely’s
Learning Model should be one of the models was applied to other basic competencies and
other subjects so that learning is more systematic and purposeful.
