Abstrak

This study aims to describe the speaking strategies used by children in the politeness
of the Minangkabau language towards parents. Narrative strategies used by Brown and
Levinson (2008). This type of research is a qualitative study using descriptive methods. The
data collection process was as follows: (1) the researcher made observations to look for
informants in Kenagarian Tanjung Betung, Rao Selatan District, Pasaman Regency; (2) The
researcher notes the words or utterances of the informant using a recording device or
cellphone; (3) Researchers copy recorded data in written data. The steps taken in analyzing
data are as follows: (1) Transcribe the recorded data into text; (2) analyzing speech strategies;
(3) interpret the results of data analysis; (4) summarizes the results of data interpretation.
Based on research data obtained through recording when speech acts occur between children
and parents, researchers found 181 data on speech strategies used by children in Minangkabau
language courtesy to parents, as many as 23 data spoke freely without honesty. , found speech
using identity markers as members of the same group as many as 22 data, speech gave approval
as much as 10 data, speech gave as much as 84 data reasons, promising speech as much as 5
data, funny talk as much as 3 data. data, fence-speech as much as 2 data, requests for speech
in the form of questions as much as 1 data, indirect speech as much as 31 data. In the
Minangkabau tradition, the speech strategy used in the act of acting against parents uses kato
mandaki, a way of pronouncing words to those who are older or older. From the results of the
study it can be concluded that the speech that occurs between children and parents is not polite.
The reason is that speech strategies do not use polite greetings. This often happens when
children talk to older people in the context of angry situations.
