AN ANALYSIS OF HYPERBOLIC EXPRESSIONS IN THE MOVIE ANNE WITH AN E

Abstract

This research aims to analyze hyperbole used in Anne With An E movie. The research is focused on the forms and intended meanings with the purpose of finding out the forms and intended meaning of hyperbole used by speakers in the movie. The research is conducted by applying a qualitative approach based on Mason (2002) and theoretical concepts based on Claridge (2011) and Recchia, Howe, Ross & Alexander, 2010). Based on the analysis, the research results in that the speakers of the movie use a number of hyperbole with various forms such as single-word, phrasal, clausal, numerical, the role of the superlative, comparison, and repetition. The forms of the hyperbole are used with various intended meanings.
