AN ANALYSIS OF METAPHOR USED IN COCO MOVIE

Abstract

The goal of this research is to identify different types of metaphorical expressions in Coco movie. The author also tries to explain the meaning of the metaphor. The method used in this study is the descriptive qualitative method to describe the types and meaning of metaphors, which means collecting the data, then observing and analyzing the data, and drawing a conclusion. The theory of metaphor used in this study is based on Ullman (1972). The data comes from a Disney movie titled Coco. The data, on the other hand, are the utterances from the characters in the movie. The results of this study showed there are 2 anthropomorphic metaphors, 2 animal metaphors, 9 synesthetic metaphors, and 22 from concrete to abstract metaphors, which are the most frequent used. Each metaphor's meaning is interpreted within the existing context.
